Allergies and dietary needs

In the UK, tell staff clearly about any allergy before ordering. Ask for the allergen menu and do not assume that “vegan” or “gluten-free” removes all risk of cross-contamination. For serious allergies, carry your prescribed medication and an explanatory card in English.

Frequently asked questions

Which station should I use?

For London and central St Albans, usually use St Albans City. For the local line to Watford Junction, use St Albans Abbey.

Do I need a car?

Not for a visit focused on the historic centre. A car can be useful for nearby villages, the countryside, de Havilland Museum or accommodation outside the centre.

Can I pay by card?

Contactless payment is widely accepted. Keep an alternative payment method and check the specific system used by each car park.

Is St Albans suitable for a day trip from London?

Yes. Fast Thameslink services and the short distances between the station, centre, Cathedral and parks make a half-day or full-day visit practical.
